Gove hails ‘popular’ tax on plastic bags

The plastic bag charge is one of the most popular taxes ever introduced by any government, Environment Secretary Michael Gove has said.

The 5p levy, introduced in 2015, has reduced the number of single-use plastic bags bought by about 90 per cent, showing an environmentally conscious public will pay more to reduce pollution, Mr Gove added.
