Twisted unveils latest Defender in Monaco
LAND ROVER Defender specialist Twisted Automotive has unveiled its latest vehicle at Monaco’s Top Marques event.
The custom works vehicle was built over three months in the heart of Yorkshire.
Twisted said its one-off 2018 Custom Works V8 dramatically improves on-road capabilities while retaining a high level of offroad ability.
The vehicle features an LS3 V8 Engine Conversion to 430bhp, including a Twisted stainless steel twin exit exhaust, uprated drivetrain, Alcon brakes, and front and rear air lockers. Twisted said its progressive suspension and 18in alloy wheels, with Cooper Discoverer tyres, enhance the build’s performance.
Top Marques is an annual event bringing together the finest collection of automotive, watch and jewellery brands at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.
Twisted Automotive founder, Charles Fawcett, said: “This is not a vehicle that is dripping in bolt on accessories, nor is it one that appears that much different from its roots.
“Instead, this one-off V8 reflects passionately on its heritage, while showcasing the longevity and future of the Defender.”
Based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, Twisted Automotive is recognised as the global authority on the Defender and specialises in redefining vehicles to the exacting specifications of customers from around the world.
Twisted was established in 2001, but Mr Fawcett’s love affair with the Land Rover Defender started much earlier
As a child, he was surrounded by Land Rover vehicles.
His father had been involved in the sale and repair of this rugged vehicle since the 1970s and ran a 4×4 off-road driving centre.
Mr Fawcett joined the family business in 1995 and in 2000 set up Twisted as a side operation, offering tuning and performance enhancements for the then range of Land Rover 200/300tdi Defender, Discovery and Range Rover.
By 2008, the demand for expert advice and quality modification had grown and Twisted became a full-time operation.
In 2009, Mr Fawcett made the decision to focus purely on Defender range of Land Rover’s output.
