A FOOTBALL club’s plans for stadium improvements have been approved.

Harrogate Town AFC plans to build a two-storey clubhouse, seated terraces, an office building, classrooms for community facilities and floodlighting at the CNG Stadium in Wetherby Road.

Harrogate Borough Council has now supported the plans. The club has used the site since 1919. The club has ambitions to be promoted from National League North to the National League and eventually the Football League.

To do this, the club needs to upgrade and improve the playing and spectator facilities to meet the Football Association’s requirements.

Club managing director Garry Plant said: “The football club has been at the heart of the Harrogate community for nearly 100 years. We are delighted that the planning committee supported this sensitively designed scheme which will help us achieve our ambitions.”

David Smith, of Indigo planning consultancy, said: “We have worked closely with the club, the council’s officers, the design team and local community to secure this permission.”
