Man released after police questioning

Detectives investigating reports of a serious sexual assault have said they do not believe a crime was committed.

A 31-year-old man had been arrested following the reported offence in the Bootham area of York overnight between Sunday night and Monday.

But North Yorkshire Police later confirmed that the man was released with no further action to be taken.

A spokesman said: “Detectives do not believe a crime has been committed.”
