PROUD RETURN
The Duke of York praised soldiers returning home from Afghanistan at a medals parade at Richmond Castle. He said the 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, based at Catterick Garrison, ‘excelled’ during two fourmonth tours of the country.
SOLDIERS RETURNING home from a tour of Afghanistan have been given the Royal seal of approval.
The Duke of York said yesterday that the 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment (2 YORKS) had “excelled” with their commitment and professionalism.
He was speaking as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Yorkshire Regiment during a medals parade at Richmond Castle yesterday.
The soldiers, based at Somme Barracks in Catterick Garrison, have taken part in two fourmonth operational tours – the first time they have deployed as a regiment to Afghanistan since 2012.
The Duke said: “The standard of your double rota of operations was exemplary and you have completed two very successful tours. You have proved dedicated, loyal and committed during your time in Kabul. We are living in a very confused world and the Yorkshire Regiment could be called upon at any time to serve anywhere in the world.”
He was joined by the Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, Barry Dodd, as well as the colonel of the regiment, Brigadier Andrew Jackson, for the presentations.
