Chris Waters: Monday was the last day of Championship cricket at Headingley until August 29 – 128 days hence.
@Rich57H. Nowt to do with new construction, Tour de Yorkshire, Rhinos, the Grand National, Wimbledon or any other lame excuse. Purely down to ineptitude at ECB who are hell-bent on killing the County Championship. I feel the membership will fall dramatically next year.
@KeithBruce2. The next football season will be established before Yorkshire play Championship cricket at Headingley again and the current football season hasn’t ended yet.
@JulieMincher. It’s ridiculous, particularly for members who are unable to travel to Scarborough for the games there. Feels like the ECB are trying to kill off the Championship with their scheduling of it this season.
@stuartharveymo1. Dear Mr Waters. As a Durham member living in Yorkshire I don’t often agree with you, but what you are saying about the situation surrounding four-day county cricket I find myself in full agreement. The problem is that the ECB do not seem to listen or take any notice of the members.
@nigelclark22. Madness, just madness. Red ball cricket is being killed off, but agonisingly slowly, by a thousand cuts.
@sbarton2904. Fixtures this year worst I’ve ever known!
@Boxclever123. Should play T20 in August when kids are off school – five weeks tops.
@DavidBertram1. Why would anyone take out membership on this basis? This is lunacy.
@bobtowngrabman. Maybe to do with the construction site.
@CricketBen3. It is to do with the Tour de Yorkshire, half marathon and triathlon on Sundays which cover three rounds.
@NaomhEanna1932. That’s just not cricket. #feelyourpain.
@priydmistry. That’s sad to hear. With my grandma living round the corner, I always look to see if I can nip round to the ground for an afternoon of ‘proper cricket’.
@MikeEllis86. That’s absolute madness. Sad the way the game is going.
@ROW_Z20. Shocking, in a word.
