-

A MOTHER has thanked hospital staff for saving her twin boys after they were born 15 weeks early, weighing just 1lb 11oz each.

Kelli Lawless, who has five other children, went into labour when she was 25 weeks and five days’ pregnant and delivered her sons by emergency Caesarean at Hull Women and Children’s Hospital.

Newborn twins Jai and Khal have now left intensive care.

“We were taking it hour by hour at the start, not knowing if the boys would make it,” Ns Lawless said. “The staff in NICU are just absolutely amazing.

“It was mind-blowing at the start, with all the machines and the beeping and everything else that goes on.

“But the nurses were so kind and looked after us as well as Jai and Khal.

“There aren’t the words thank them enough.” to

Ms Lawless, who is also mother of Kadie, 20, Kacie, 18, Jodeci, 14, Kory, nine, and three-year-old Kodee said she and David were over the moon when they discovered they were expecting twins.

She described the frightening scenes after the boys’ birth as they were rushed for urgent treatment at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

She added: “The staff in NICU are just incredible. One nurse, Natalie Cook, stayed with Jai for four nights in a row and she has quite a bond with him. You cannot fail to be so grateful for all they do.”
