The X Factor to stage city auditions
THE PRINCE of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall began a tour of France and Greece by commemorating victims of the Nice terrorist attack.
Prince Charles and Camilla were welcomed at the Villa Massena in the French city yesterday before paying their respects to the 86 people who died when a 19-tonne cargo truck was driven into pedestrians in July 2016.
The country was left in mourning as people came to terms with the devastating impact of the Bastille Day attack, which also left 202 people injured.
The Prince of Wales laid a bouquet of flowers at the Nice Attack Memorial to commemorate those who died.
The couple then stood in silence as they looked at the memorial which reads
–in memory of our angels.
The Prince then began speaking to some of the victims’ families, and was shown a framed photograph of two girls who lost their lives.
One young woman was in floods of tears as she spoke to the couple about one of her loved ones – and Prince Charles told one of the men who helped to stop the attacker he was “remarkable”.
Speaking to reporters after talking to Prince Charles, Franck Terrier, 51, who was labelled by the Prince as “courageous” and “remarkable”, said he was “honoured” to receive the praise.
Mr Terrier said he did not think he was a hero and he just did “all I could to help”.
He said he was just “eating an ice cream” with his family when the attacker accelerated at them.
The mother of one the victims in Nice said she showed the Prince of Wales a collage of her daughter when he paid his respects at the memorial. Anne Murris, whose daughter Camille Murris was one of the 86 people killed in the 2016 attack, said she told Charles of the different ways in which the victims are remembered in the city.
She said there are 86 stones on the beach – each with a victim’s name painted on. Ms Murris described the Royal visit as “an honour”.
Later this week, the couple will arrive in Athens, where they will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier before an official welcome at the Presidential Mansion and Prime Minister’s Residence.
The prince will also lay a wreath at the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery before other engagements to celebrate the UK and Greece’s longstanding maritime relationship.
Auditions for the new series of The X Factor are to be held in the city.
The show is scouring the country for budding hopefuls to take part in series 15 of the hit show. And this year the team will be coming to Sheffield as part of the audition tour.
