Weinstein set for arrest over sex assault claims
IT IS an order of chivalry founded nearly 300 years ago, and Prince Charles yesterday attended a service in Westminster Abbey to honour those bestowed with the title of the Order of the Bath.
The Prince of Wales appeared in high spirits as he arrived in a pink robe and military uniform for the Order of the Bath service, which is held every four years to honour officers of the Armed Forces as well as senior civil servants.
Charles attended in his role as Great Master of the order, which was founded on May 18, 1725, by King George I. Its name derives from the elaborate medieval ceremony for appointing a knight, which involved bathing as one of its elements.
The Prince of Wales had stepped in for the Queen at the Order of the Bath Service in 2014 after aides reportedly feared that the steps at the abbey were “too steep” for the monarch while dressed in full regalia.
Meanwhile, Charles’s wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, laid a Lego-brick foundation when she officially opened a new children’s library yesterday.
Camilla visited the Bream Community Library where the children displayed Lego, including a model of Buckingham Palace. During the visit to the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, the Duchess started a new project using the plastic bricks – a replica of the community library.
The children of Bream Primary School lined the road with Union flags, many handcoloured, to welcome the Royal visitor. The community library is run by volunteers with the support of Gloucestershire library services.
“The Duchess was wonderful with the children and read them a story,” said Dr Mary Rontree, the chairman of the Bream Community Library Company. HARVEY WEINSTEIN is reportedly facing arrest today following an investigation into allegations he sexually assaulted numerous women. According to the
investigators in Manhattan are preparing to arrest the disgraced movie mogul and he is expected to surrender to authorities. Scores of women have come forward to allege sexual misconduct from Mr Weinstein, ranging from inappropriate comments to rape.
It was reported earlier this week that federal prosecutors in New York had launched a probe into the allegations, which is separate to the investigation currently under way by the Manhattan District Attorney, the film producer’s lawyer said in a court filing. In a declaration filed on May 3 in the Weinstein Co’s bankruptcy proceedings, lawyer Benjamin Brafman said Mr Weinstein was a “principal target” of an investigation being carried out by the US attorney’s office in Manhattan.
He added: “I am trying my very best to persuade both the federal and state prosecutors that he should not be arrested and or indicted, because he did not knowingly violate the law.”
