Fash calls for some consistency as Hull face Red Devils

HULL FC prop Brad Fash says it is time for his side to show they can deliver the consistency needed to be title contenders.

The Airlie Birds host Salford Red Devils tonight hoping to make an immediate response after losing their grasp on the Challenge Cup last Sunday.

Granted, Lee Radford’s side have more injury problems; halfback Albert Kelly, who played his first game back from a hamstring injury in that narrow loss, has not recovered well enough to feature.

That means 21-year-old scrumhalf Liam Harris will come in and experienced loose forward Joe Westerman could also return.

Struggling Salford have lost their last four games but Fash said: “It’s a big game and they’ve got some players making some good metres in the middle who are now finding their feet.

“That will find itself to their outside backs so we have to be ready for that.

“But we’re all really positive with that performance against Saints, even though we lost, especially when you think how many players we lost in it.

“We now have to produce that sort of performance again, though. We’re more than capable of dishing up good performances. It’s just about when we do it. We have to do it more often.

“We’ve got a good opportunity now to get some more points on the board and really get moving.

“Hopefully we’ll get a few boys back soon and we can kick on.”

Academy product Fash is looking sharp again after recovering from a broken jaw and, with plenty of injuries in Radford’s side, is making the most of his chances.

“I feel like I’m doing alright and getting a fair share of minutes,” said the 22-year-old

“I’ve not long got back from the broken jaw so we’ll see what my match fitness is like.

“I was out for seven weeks in the end and had no contact for seven weeks while they waited, well… for my jaw to be not broken anymore! “It’s good to be back now.” Hunslet are mourning club legend Geoff Gunney MBE who has died, aged 84.

A second-row, who was born in Armley, Leeds, Gunney played for Hunslet from 1951-73, making 579 appearances, including the 1965 Challenge Cup final against Wigan.

Known as “Mr Hunslet”, he was also capped for Great Britain, and had a brief spell as coach of Wakefield Trinity in 1976.
