Calmer waters
THE FISHING industry was important to Hull but represented only a small part of the port’s commercial activities, said its former boss and now historian Mike Fell.
“It remains a thriving port. There is an enormous amount of investment still going in,” he said. “It’s just had a whole series of container cranes put in, and it’s still served every day by freight trains.
“Ports are vital to the economy and the country, and Hull has a great future.”
