Revised plans set to be approved for flats at former fire station site
PROPOSALS TO build flats on the site of a former fire station are set to be considered by decisionmakers in Leeds.
An application to build 18 flats on the site of Stanks Fire Station in Swarcliffe has been recommended for approval by Leeds City Council officers.
This is despite another application to build houses on the site being rejected last year.
The new plans include one, two and three-bedroom flats across two separate two-storey blocks, as well as 28 car parking spaces.
A report set to go before councillors next month recommends a decision be delegated to the council’s chief planning officer. It states the application is likely to be accepted, subject to the council securing extra cash from the applicant to spend on improvements to local green space.
It added: “Amendments undertaken to the layout, siting, design and appearance of the proposed development are considered to have adequately resolved previous planning concerns.”
The previous planning application to build 13 homes on the site had been rejected due to car parking arrangements, the impact on protected trees and a lack of green space. A planning inspector then dismissed an appeal, saying the proposal was likely to increase opportunities for crime and antisocial behaviour.
