Knock-out test for England as Mallard anniversar­y arrives

This week marks the 70th anniversar­y of the birth of the National Health Service. A series of events are planned to mark the occasion, including a service at York Minster on Thursday. The service will celebrate NHS staff, volunteers and carers, reflect on the achievemen­ts of the last seven decades and look ahead to the future of the NHS. A similar service will take place in London at Westminste­r Abbey. Runners will be hoping the sun will be out for the Leeds 10k on Sunday. Now celebratin­g its 12th birthday, the 10k race, billed as ‘the race for all’, runs from Vicar Lane, along Kirkstall Road to the turning point at Savins Mill Way before heading to the finishing line on The Headrow.

The race is famed for its fun, friendly atmosphere. Last year, nearly 9,000 people took part in the event, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity. The race was founded by the late Jane Tomlinson.
