Appeal for memories of Majestic landmark
PEOPLE IN Leeds are being asked to share their memories of one of the city centre’s best-loved landmarks as work continues on its multi-million-pound redevelopment. As previously reported by The
Yorkshire Post, property firm Rushbond is in the process of transforming the Majestic building in City Square into high-class offices.
And now Rushbond has launched a project called Majestic Memories with the aim of pulling together a collection of stories and photos from the Grade II-listed building’s past, when it was variously used as a cinema, restaurant, ballroom, bingo hall and nightclub. Mark Finch, real estate director at Rushbond, said: “We are calling on people to share the happy memories they have of the Majestic over the years.
“The building is an integral part of the cultural and social history of the city and will no doubt have featured in many people’s lives.”
The Majestic building dates back to the 1920s but has been unoccupied since its stint as a nightclub – when it was known as the Majestyk – came to an end in 2006. It was also badly damaged in a fire in 2014.

Work on the Majestic’s conversion into 66,000 sq ft of office space is scheduled for completion next summer.
