Gornall turns his attention to feature event

-

KIRK HAMMERTON’S Jamie Gornall will bid for a dream ‘debut’ double today with the rider spoilt for choice in the week’s feature the Cock O’The North.

Having competed on working hunters as a youngster, Gornall is riding in his first ever show jumping classes at the Great Yorkshire.

The 33-year-old excelled in yesterday’s International Stairway by soaring to victory on Carsten. Attention now turns to the Cock O’The North today for which Gornall’s focus will actually turn back to the horse he rode on the opening day.

“I think I’m going to try my grey horse Christian 25 in it,” revealed Gornall.

“He jumped on Tuesday and had a day off yesterday, so he should be a bit fresher. Carsten has had two rounds in that big grass arena with the heat of it and he was also a little bit fresh with everything going on with all the pigs and ponies and people.

“He will be a lot more lethargic today, so I will think I will rely on Christian.”
