They Wannabe doing it again – Spice Girls reunion confirmed

-

THEY EMERGED as one of cultural phenomena of the 1990s, riding on the crest of a wave of British pop music.

And 22 years on from when the Spice Girls released their first hit Wannabe, one of the girl group’s founding members, Mel B, has confirmed a reunion will take place this year.

The Leeds-born singer, 43, whose real name is Melanie Brown, said there is one member of the girl group who has been holding up proceedings.

When asked if all the band would be involved, she told ITV’s

Loose Women: “There’s one that’s been a bit difficult. But she’s getting roped in.”

Pressed if it will happen this year, she said: “Yes, yes. We are going to start this year and then go on till next year.”

Earlier this year, the group confirmed plans to work together on new projects, sharing a photo online of themselves at Geri Horner’s house. However, Victoria Beckham later denied that the group, which also featured Melanie Chisholm and Emma Bunton and had hits with

Say You’ll Be There and Spice Up Your Life, was going on tour. Mel B also revealed the death of her father allowed her family to put aside a rift that had kept them apart for more than eight years. The singer reunited with her mother and sister last year while her father was in hospital battling cancer.

She said: “It was about eight years that I didn’t speak to them. It was heartbreaking. The good thing is, well kind of not good, when my dad died – God bless his soul – that brought my family together.

“So on his deathbed when I walked in, I got to see my mum and my sister for the first time in eight or nine years.”
