Cooler spell for county in North-South divide

-

THE UK is facing a North-South split this week with parts of the country bracing themselves for another scorching spell of weather.

While the South will sizzle in temperatures hitting 30C it seems Yorkshire will be slightly cooler as cloudy weather and some rain spells are predicted to linger.

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said: “The weekend just gone were the first two days this month where temperatures haven’t reached 25C but we got back to that point yesterday, it hit 25.3C in Cavendish in Suffolk so it’s already starting to warm up again.

“Over the next few days there will be something of a north and south split high pressure is already starting to build up in the south, bringing dry, fine and weather.

“It’s a more varied picture across the north but it’s an improving situation.”

The North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland can expect outbreaks of much-needed rain on Tuesday, Wednesday and in to Thursday where it will become more sporadic.

Temperatures are set to be around 23C but early predictions for the weekend across Yorkshire and the Humber is that it will be dry and warm with sunny spells.

The UK had a long heatwave during the summer of 1976, which saw July 1976 be the joint ninth driest on record. Currently, July this year is the 13th driest on record,
