Man jailed for stabbing his ex and neighbour

-

A MAN has been jailed for 25 years after admitting to breaking into the home of a neighbour and stabbing her after she intervened as he attacked his former partner in front of her child.

Louis Morgan, 34, of Manvers Street in Hull, admitted attempting to murder Gwen Kaplan and wounding Rhiannon Mills with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, at her home in Sunningdale Drive, Immingham, on February 12.

Sheffield Crown Court heard Morgan had left Ms Mills with life changing injuries, after accusing her of being unfaithful and punching and kicking her to the head, face and body.

The attack happened in the driveway of the house, as Morgan held Ms Mill’s four-year-old daughter under his arm.

He then turned his attention to Mrs Kaplan, 66, after she told him she had called an ambulance and called him an ‘animal’. He then stabbed Mrs Kaplan.

After the case, Detective Inspector Jo Taylor said: “This was a sustained and brutal attack, which left both his victims with significant injuries. Our thoughts remain with them and their families, who will have to live with the consequences of Morgan’s actions for the rest of their lives.”

Jeremy Evans from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “This was a sustained and brutal attack on two completely defenceless women, which left them both with extremely serious injuries.

“Both were lucky to escape with their lives.”

He said both crimes were “brutal and violent”. The court heard that he is a man who has a history for using intimidation.
