INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS across the region are celebrating success as students take to the next step in their careers.

At The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), more than half of students achieved ABB, the coveted grades required by many leading universities, with three scooping four A*s each. The trio all plan to study physics, Tamanna Dasanjh and Theo Tobias both from Alwoodley are heading to Durham University, while Will Thornton from Adel is going to Imperial College, London.

Principal Sue Woodroofe said: “Our students have achieved a superb set of results and their dedication and diligence has been impressive. These results are the culmination of years of commitment by staff and students alike, well supported by their families too. They leave the school well placed for the next chapter of their lives and we are very proud of them.”

At Bradford Grammar School, 54 per cent of pupils took A*/A grades, a result headmaster Simon Hinchliffe said he was “delighted” with.

St Peter’s in York saw 83 per cent of grades awarded at A*-B for A Level, with more than one in five – 22 per cent – of all exams passed at A* or at the Pre-U equivalent grades.

Dr Alastair Dunn, acting headmaster, said: “Today’s Upper Sixth leave us as well-rounded young people, who have the confidence and enthusiasm to make an impact in the wider world. We look forward to keeping in touch with each of them, and to following their progress over the coming years. I congratulate them on their excellent results and thank their dedicated staff and supportive parents.”
