Tributes as Queen’s physician is killed cycling through London

-

ONE OF the Queen’s physicians was killed after being in collision with a lorry as he cycled through London.

The Queen has been informed of the death of 67-year-old Dr Peter Fisher, Buckingham Palace said on Thursday, after he became the eighth cyclist to die on the capital’s streets this year.

The Metropolitan Police appealed for witnesses of the collision with a CCF lorry in Holborn, central London, at about 9.30am on Wednesday.

Dr Gill Gaskin, a medical director for University College London Hospitals, where Dr Fisher worked for more than 35 years, said “we are all deeply shocked and saddened”.

“He was an international figure in homeopathy who was committed to holistic and compassionate care for his patients,” she added.

“He will be greatly missed by his colleagues and patients alike.”

Dr Fisher, who lived in Highgate, north London, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash on High Holborn.

Scotland Yard said the lorry driver stopped at the scene, assisted police with their inquiries and has not been arrested.

Officers wish to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash outside the Princess Louise pub.

CCF, a subsidiary of Travis Perkins, offered its sympathies to Dr Fisher’s loved ones.

“We are working closely with the police as part of the investigation to determine exactly what happened,” a statement added.

Sir Marcus Setchell, Her Majesty’s former surgeon-gynaecologist, said: “He was much respected as a good doctor who saw homeopathy as complementary to medical care.

“We are all shocked by his tragic loss.”

Police are appealing for members of the public who were in the vicinity of High Holborn near to Newton Street and Southampton Place to come forward.
