Delay to re-opening of pub if plans for houses in car park are rejected

-

THE REOPENING of a village pub could be delayed if councillors fail to approve plans to build two houses in its car park, a developer has warned.

Councillors are being recommended to approve amended plans for the New Inn at Tickton near Beverley on Monday, which would see two houses and two garages go up, despite objections from half a dozen neighbours.

Developer Wayne Low said daughter Geneva, 20, would be running a new venture, the Micro Pig Bar, which should open in October. It comes as the second pub in the village, the Crown and Anchor, is also due to reopen in the next few weeks.

Mr Low, who is planning a similar project in Beverley, said extensive renovation work had already been carried out, including putting in a new bar and stone floors.

“It’s going to be a really good little village boozer,” he added. “Obviously the Crown and Anchor is going to be doing food, we are just a bar. This won’t be run-of-themill ales, it is stuff that has been imported from Italy and Sweden, it’s all premium products.

“The problem with a lot of pubs is staffing and overheads and the concept we have is that it is literally one person operating it at any one time.

“I have spoken to the ward councillor and the parish council is in support. The statutory consultees are in support.

“Something will have to go really wrong for them to refuse it. The only thing that will delay the opening of the pub is them refusing the application.”

Ken Smith, from the Hull and East Riding branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, said he supported the revised application.
