Major flats plan on the cards for city

-

A planning application for one of the biggest residential developments in the city in years has been submitted to the council.

A scheme to redevelop the former Hallmark Cards site in Heaton, creating 385 flats, was first announced last month. Now a full planning application for the ambitious redevelopment has been submitted by developer, The Investment Room. THE YORKSHIRE Party will set out plans to create a culture of lifelong learning in the region at its annual conference this weekend.

Leader Stewart Arnold set out the policy on education ahead of the conference, which takes place in Hull on October 13.

He called for a Yorkshire Assembly with responsibility for education and to make addressing educational inequality a priority.

And he said the party wanted a “Yorkshire Education Challenge, overseen by a teacher-led commission”.

“Education is a key and is front and centre of our plans for Yorkshire,” he said.

“However, burden for transforming educational achievement in Yorkshire should not be placed entirely on schools.

“That three out of ten children in Yorkshire live in poverty and that 50,000 children, reliant on free school meals during term time, are at risk of ‘holiday hunger’ is unconscionable.” the
