ITV favourite simply streets ahead as gongs handed out at ceremony

-

dominated the winners’ list at last night’s Inside Soap awards.

The ITV show claimed silverware in seven categories, more than any other soap this year.

It won the coveted Best Soap title and also claimed honours for the Best Shock Twist and for having the funniest characters.

Jack P Shepherd, from Pudsey, Leeds, known to millions as longrunning character David Platt, was named Best Actor.

Connor McIntyre won Best Bad Boy for his portrayal of antagonist Pat Phelan, who was killed after subjecting a number

of Weatherfield’s residents to a reign of terror.

Held at 100 Wardour Street in central London, the Inside Soap Awards 2018 ceremony saw Emmerdale, EastEnders, Hollyoaks

and Doctors honoured for their stars, storylines and acting. Leeds-based soap

Emmerdale came top in three of the categories.

Emma Atkins was named Best Actress for her portrayal of Charity Dingle and Isobel Steele, better known to fans as Liv Flaherty, was named Best Young Actor. Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty Barton, picked up the award for Best Newcomer. The Kirkstall Road-produced ITV drama had been nominated for 13 gongs. As the stars arrived for the occasion, all eyes were on their outfit choices. Coronation Street star Julia Goulding, who plays Shona Ramsey in the ITV soap, did not appear to be bothered by the chilly October evening as she walked the red carpet clad in a cropped, plunging black top and black trousers.

The colour was on trend, with Charley Webb, Mollie Winnard and Ali Bastian also among those opting for black outfits.

Emmerdale’s Webb looked dramatic in a long, high-necked lacy number, while Corrie’s Winnard brought the sparkle in a sequinned gown. TV star Bastian looked stunning in a Bardot-style dress with a feathery trim, while

EastEnders actress Tilly Keeper twinkled in a sequinned dress.
