Tributes to woman found dead in stable, as man, 50, is arrested

-

A WOMAN found dead in a stable “loved nothing more than spending time with her family out in nature, looking after their horses”.

Police launched a murder investigation after the body of Ann Marie Pomphret, 49, was discovered with head injuries in Warrington, Cheshire, on Friday night.

A 50-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder continues to be questioned in custody.

In a tribute to Ms Pomphret – known as Marie – her family yesterday said: “Marie was a beloved daughter, wife and mother. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family out in nature, looking after their horses.

“We are devastated that she has been taken from us so young and in such a senseless way.

“We ask that anyone who has any information no matter how small to inform the police as soon as possible. Marie will forever be in our hearts and we appreciate all of the well wishes that we’ve received, but ask that our privacy be respected during this very difficult time.”

Police made the discovery shortly after 10.05pm when they were called to stables at Old Alder Lane in Burtonwood following reports of concern for Ms Pomphret, from Winwick.

House-to-house inquiries are continuing as police appealed for three cyclists to contact them as they may be potential witnesses.
