THE FOG SEASON OPENED

Leeds experienced its first fog of the winter this morning, but except for a little delay on some of the tram routes and few minor mishaps, no unpleasant results are reported.

Curiously enough two of the mishaps occurred on single track routes - one in Cardigan Road, and the other on the Churwell line where a car coming towards Leeds came into collision with a motor delivery van proceeding in the opposite direction.

The van, which is owned by Messrs Mann, yeast merchants, was rather badly damaged, and had to be withdrawn from service owing to one of the brakes having been damaged.

Inquiries made at the various railway stations show that there have been no accidents of any kind, and the train services were affected only very little.

Street accidents appear have been few, the General Infirmary stating that it had not received any “casualties.”

MORE PETROL SOON

The petrol allowances may shortly be increased and business motorists will be the first to receive larger supplies. As soon as peace is signed it is anticipated that petrol allowances will be granted for ordinary motoring.

The Automobile Association has received an assurance that the present petrol restrictions will be removed as rapidly as possible. which has been hung in the Memorial Hall where it will stay for future generations to enjoy and learn from. “The mural shows cameos of life in the village, the houses, children playing and the soldiers leaving for war which all come together to make the whole piece.”

The mural, which took about a year to complete involved a lot of research, some of which crossed with Diana’s work researching how the village looked in 1914.

The end of Collingham and Linton Remembers will be marked on Sunday by the traditional Service of Remembrance and then at 7pm a Battle’s Over Beacon will be lit as part of the nationwide event which will see beacons lit to commemorate the end of the war.

Looking back, Diana says they’re delighted at the impact the project has had. “The number of people who have taken it up and become involved is wonderful and we are all delighted it has joined so many people together.”
