Evans had ‘amazing time’ at BBC but is looking forward to joining Virgin Radio

-

BROADCASTER CHRIS Evans has praised the BBC following his decision to leave the broadcaster, but admitted he “can’t wait” to rejoin Virgin Radio.

The DJ, who became a father to twins in September, said it had been an honour to take the place of revered broadcaster Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2’s breakfast slot. The presenter spoke on James Martin’s Saturday Morning At Christmas, where he is set to appear with his son Walt and daughter Boo.

Speaking to Yorkshire-born Martin, who grew up in Malton, Evans said: “The BBC is a marvellous and wonderful place and I thank them for everything. I have no complaints whatsoever. I had an amazing time there, to take over Terry’s show was such an honour and such a treat.

“I survived it and lived to tell the tale. I can see bright, bright sunshine, I can see blue, blue skies and I can’t wait to get to Virgin Radio.”

Zoe Ball will replace Evans in January, as the presenter rejoins his former employer. Evans, 52, announced in September he was quitting BBC Radio 2 and returning to Virgin, almost 20 years after he left.

Meanwhile, he has also confirmed he said “yes” to appearing on Strictly Come Dancing next year.

During an appearance on The One Show on BBC1 on Wednesday, Evans revealed he has spoken to show bosses, although he has not yet signed up officially.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning At Christmas airs tomorrow at 9.25am on ITV.
