Planned strike action on school buses is called off

-

STRIKE ACTION set to impact on school buses in and around the Bradford area today has been called off after union members reached an agreement.

Parents had been warned by Bradford Council to prepare for action on a number of services run by the Keighley Bus Company today, including on several scheduled school journeys.

The dispute, over pay, terms and conditions, would additionally have seen another day of action on Tuesday next week.

The company has now confirmed that today’s action has been called off.

“We hope that the suspension of action is a turning point in the negotiations and that we will progress towards a swift resolution that no longer inconveniences our colleagues and our customers,” the company said in a statement.

“On behalf of our customers, we are pleased that the trade union have suspended their industrial action.”

In a message to customers, the Keighley Bus Company confirmed it had previously made offers of an improved wage in light of union members’ concerns, as well as an invitation to involve the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) to reach a resolution. Among the services initially listed as reduced or cancelled were school buses to South Craven, Ilkley Grammar, Parkside, Holy Family, Bingley Grammar and Titus Salt schools.
