-

THE ACTORS Olivia Colman, Christian Bale and Rami Malek will be among those hoping to take a curtain call when the nominations are announced today for the Bafta Awards.

All three were among the big winners at the weekend’s Golden Globe awards in Los Angeles and are widely tipped to also be among the contenders for the socalled British Oscars – the winners of which will be announced on February 10.

Bale, the British star named best actor in a musical or comedy at the weekend, for his role as the former US vice president Dick Cheney in Vice, is a frontrunner for Bafta’s best actor statuette.

Also in the running in the same category is Malek, star of the Bohemian Rhapsody, a homage Queen singer, Freddie Mercury.

Other possible candidates for Bafta’s main acting nominations include Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga for their remake of A Star Is Born, Emily Blunt for Mary Poppins Returns, John C Reilly and Steve Coogan for Stan and Ollie, Saoirse Ronan for Mary Queen Of Scots, and Glenn Close for The Wife.

Claire Foy is a possible contender in Bafta’s supporting actress category for First Man, while Richard E Grant could be recognised for the comedy-drama, Can You Ever Forgive Me?
