Woman thanks hospital after surviving cancer four times

-

A WOMAN who has survived cancer four times over more than three decades says she is a “very lucky girl”.

Carol Thor, 70, from Bilton Grange in Hull, spoke out to thank staff at Hull Royal Infirmary following recent life-saving surgery for an abscess in her internal organs. It is the latest illness she has battled her way through since developing breast cancer at the age of 39.

Since then she has had cancer a further three times and undergone a hysterectomy, treatment for skin cancer and problems with her bowel and bladder.

But Mrs Thor says she has nothing to complain about: “I’m really grateful and appreciate everything that people do for me. The staff were so kind and thoughtful.

“I had a rough time really, but I go home, I’m positive. I have a lovely husband and two beautiful sons and friends coming in two by two. I can’t wish for anything better.

“I have been a very lucky girl.” In September Mrs Thor, who is married to Richard, and has sons Christopher and Robert, had to have surgery and a colostomy after an abscess developed in her bowel and bladder.

She spent three weeks on Ward 60 and returned recently to thank staff. Asked how she has coped with getting ill so often, she said: “Sometimes I can’t believe it, but I just get on with it and that’s it, that’s all you can, really.”
