Tributes after death of cancer victim Toby

-

TRIBUTES WERE paid to a young cancer sufferer from Yorkshire after he lost his fight for life.

The family of six-year-old Toby Nye, from Osmondthorpe, Leeds, confirmed the news of his death on social media late on Sunday.

Toby, inset, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma in 2017, on the day of his fourth birthday.

He was declared cancer free last year after undergoing groundbreaking antibody therapy – made possible thanks to a £200,000 fundraising campaign backed by players and staff at Leeds United – but in October it was announced he was suffering from a brain tumour.

United owner Andrea Radrizzani said in a statement yesterday: “We have lost one of our own.

“Toby Nye was part of our family and the moments we spent together will be in our hearts forever. “Toby made a huge impact on all of us at the club, his smile inspired us all.” Leeds captain Liam Cooper, who forged a special bond with the youngster, tweeted: “I will forever cherish the moments we spent together. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. Your smile will live with me forever. Sleep tight little man I love you.”

In their statement on Sunday, Toby’s family said they had lost their “little warrior”, adding that he had “fought so hard right to the end, he wasn’t in any pain and he was peaceful”.
