Rodwell keen for Rovers to pull off shock
JACK RODWELL has warned Newcastle United that Blackburn Rovers are ready to finish the job and produce an FA Cup upset.
Championship side Blackburn were within six minutes of knocking Newcastle out in the third round before Matt Ritchie’s penalty set up tonight’s Ewood Park replay.
“It was a great performance at St James’ Park, and with the fans behind us, with us doing what we do, we can beat anyone,” said midfielder Rodwell. “It’ll be a good test for the group. We need that.
“It’s about being patient and sticking to what we’re good at.
“We have good enough players to produce the goods.”
The three-times capped England international, who joined Blackburn last summer from Sunderland, played for Manchester City in their 2013 FA Cup final defeat to Wigan.
The 27-year-old was also an unused substitute when Everton lost to Chelsea in the 2009 final.
New Stoke manager Nathan Jones takes charge of his first home game for their replay with Shrewsbury.
The first game, a 1-1 draw, marked the end of Gary Rowett’s eight-month reign at the club.
“I’m a lover of the cups and was brought up on it,” said Jones, who lost his opening game at Brentford on Saturday.
“I know the tradition of the competitions and we want to progress.”
