Kate has designs on Chelsea Flower Show plot

-

THE DUCHESS of Cambridge has joined the ranks of celebrity gardeners by designing a plot for this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Her creation is a woodland wilderness said to have been inspired by her childhood memories.

She created it in collaboration with two award-winning landscape architects, Andree Davies and Adam White. They used wild planting and natural materials aimed at providing visitors to the show in May with a “sense of wonder and magic”.

The project was unveiled ahead of Kate’s visit yesterday to King Henry’s Walk Garden in Islington, part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s It’s Your Neighbourhood group.

The organisation said the Duchess’s garden had been “inspired by childhood memories that are triggered by the natural world, as well as special moments that will be created and

Her garden is designed for families and communities, and aims to encourage all generations to connect with nature and enjoy growing plants for their wellbeing.

Sue Biggs, director general of the RHS, said Kate’s involvement would “further highlight the powerful benefit that access to gardens, nature and growing plants can have for all our health and happiness”. The Duchess is a longstanding supporter of organisations such as the Scouts and Farms for City Children, as well as having visited the Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden, the RHS Campaign for School Gardening.
