Adams gets her dream shot at a world title at Royal Albert Hall
DOUBLE OLYMPIC champion Nicola Adams is to fight for a world title for the first time in March.
Leeds boxer Adams will take on Mexico’s Arely Mucino at the Royal Albert Hall on March 8 for the WBO world flyweight title.
The 36-year-old became the first woman to claim an Olympic boxing title, winning it on home soil at London 2012.
She went on to retain it four years later by beating France’s Sarah Ourahmoune in Rio following her 2014 Commonwealth Games gold.
“Winning a world title is what I got into professional boxing for,” she said.
“I believe it is my destiny to do so and ultimately unify the
division. To get this opportunity after just five professional fights is an achievement in itself and I am so thankful to my promotion team for making it happen.
“To fight for the WBO world title at the Royal Albert Hall is a dream come true when you consider the great names that have performed there and I want to make this another memorable occasion.”
Her two Olympic wins made her the first Britain to retain an Olympic championship since Harry Mallin in 1924.
Adams will fight for her first world title since turning pro’ two years ago and is yet to be defeated since entering the paid ranks, winning three of her five professional fights.
It is the first world title fight at the Royal Albert Hall has staged a for two decades.
Adams’ opponent, 29-year-old Mucino, won the WBO title in February 2018 and holds a record of 27 wins, two draws and three defeats during her 10 years as a professional.
