Warmest Valentine’s Day in 20 years as mild spell continues

-

MILD WEATHER conditions which have seen temperatures rise well into double figures are expected to continue over the weekend around Yorkshire.

Spring looked to have arrived early yesterday as another mild day topped off the working week.

Overnight temperatures as low as minus 3.3C (26F) gave way to highs of up to 16C (61F) in parts of the UK.

The low night time temperatures caused the risk of fog in some areas, leading to a yellow weather warning from the Met Office. Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said yesterday: “People getting out first thing might think it’s a bit nippy out there and there are some fog patches in central and southern England.

“But there will be a lot of sunshine around later once that clears.”

The unseasonably mild weather saw the warmest Valentine’s Day in more than 20 years on Thursday with a maximum of 16.1C (61F) recorded in the Welsh town of Bala, Gwynedd. Over the weekend the temperature is expected to reach 14C (57.2F) in Leeds and York and 12C (53.6) in Scarborough and Whitby, with sunny conditions around the county.

For Yorkshire, the Met Office said it would be “feeling mild, especially in sunnier east, but breezier over western hills.”

It was expected to be cloudy in southern and central areas this weekend, with drizzle and fog.
