Getting people savvy in getting around city
A CAMPAIGN is being launched in York with the aim of encouraging people to rethink the way they get around the city.
York Council’s iTravel Savvy initiative will run throughout next month to promote sustainable forms of transport.
Activities will include a competition in which staff at a range of major employers will be challenged to make as many journeys as possible by bus rather than car.
People will also be able to take part by posting photos of their trips around the city on the Facebook, Instagram and Twitter social media platforms, using the #iTravelSavvy hashtag.
Other events are set to include a cycle path clean-up and guided walks, with the campaign team also due to head into workplaces to spread the sustainable transport message.
Coun Peter Dew, the council’s executive member for transport and planning, said: “iTravel Savvy is a month-long programme of activities aimed at promoting sustainable forms of transport to individuals, businesses and other organisations across the city.
“I’d encourage individuals, businesses and employers to find out more about how they can get involved.”
Details of the campaign were announced yesterday at a free networking breakfast for businesses attended by the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Keith Orrell.
