NO NEED TO JET OFF
Four-year-old Greata Ruzzon, of Leeds, chills out under the fountains in the gardens at Roundhay Park yesterday. More sunshine and above-average temperatures are expected today and tomorrow as “exceptionally mild” conditions continue.
MORE bright spring-like weather is expected across Yorkshire this weekend after temperatures rose yesterday to more than double what the region usually enjoys at this time of the year.
A county-wide high of 16.8 degrees was recorded by the Met Office at East Park in Hull yesterday.
In the west, Bingley basked in temperatures reaching 15.9 degrees, a high matched at Linton-on-Ouse, near York, further north, while to the south, in Sheffield, temperatures reached 15.6 degrees.
Across the UK as a whole, the warmest temperature was 18.1 degrees, at Gogerddan in the west of Wales.
In Yorkshire, the average temperature in late February is seven degrees.
Looking ahead to the start of the weekend, Ellie Creed, a spokesperson at the Met Office, said: “There might be a bit of low cloud, mist and murk for South and East Yorkshire but the North and West will enjoy a fairly bright start on Saturday.
“Across the region there will be a fair amount of sunshine through the afternoon with highs of 15 degrees.”
There is expected to be more cloud around tomorrow but there will still be sunny spells for most with temperatures reaching 14 degrees, she said.
Conditions in the region at the start of next week are forecast to remain settled, with the best of the sunshine likely to come on Tuesday.
Yesterday’s weather was less kind in other parts of the country. Some London airport passengers suffered flight delays owing to fog in the morning.
Some 41 departures were delayed at Heathrow and 35 more at Gatwick. Other European airports hit by the fog included Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Venice.
A yellow weather warning for fog was issued by the Met Office in the East Midlands, Suffolk, South East and South West.
