Red carpet awards ceremony for region’s top young filmmakers

-

YOUNG FILMMAKERS from across Yorkshire are to walk the red carpet at a national awards ceremony in London tonight.

Three teams, from Hornsea and Doncaster, have made the shortlist for the Into Film Awards for 2019, with nominees to attend a Leicester Square ceremony hosted by CBBC presenter Radzi Chinyanganya.

The awards, hosted by the film education charity Into Film, are aimed at paying tribute to young people who have shown “exceptional” achievements in the industry, filmmaking and reviews.

Charity ambassador and actor Michael Sheen said: “The Into Film Awards are a great moment for young people across the UK from greatly varying backgrounds to be celebrated for their creativity and achievements in film and filmmaking.

“They are an important reminder, at an important time,

that talent is everywhere, and that film and the arts have a huge role to play in young people’s lives and learning.”

Hornsea Primary School is nominated for an anti-bullying project in the category of Best Film, 11 years and under.

As part of the school’s anti-bullying week, Year 5 children had been set the challenge to create the film for an assembly showing, using an iPad to film and edit.

Bessacarr Primary School’s Film Club, which has been running for 11 years and now has 55 members, is shortlisted for club of the year, while student Rebecca Sprakes is nominated as member of the year.

Club leader, Daniel Smeaton said: “We are very proud of our film club. The recognition is greatly deserved for a fantastic group of children.

“Being nominated for two awards is an incredible accolade and really acknowledges the quality of work that we are doing.”

Rebecca added: “I’m passionate about all aspects of film, helping to run the school Film Club.

“My role on the Youth Advisory Council, participation in film projects and use of social media raises the profile of film for young people to enjoy.”
