Developers in bid to demolish vandal-hit pub building

-

A LANDMARK pub could be demolished to make way for a new development.

A planning application to demolish the now derelict Gallopers pub building on Wakefield Road, Bradford, has been submitted to the city council.

The 1970s pub, which is on one of the main routes into the city centre from the M606, has been boarded up for a number of years. The application says it has also been a target for vandalism.

Fuzail Patel, of the Redbeck Group, is behind the planning application and, although it does not reveal the future of the site, the company runs petrol filling stations and linked convenience stores in Rotherham, Wakefield and Manchester.

Recent changes to planning law require developers to apply for planning permission before the demolition of a pub or former pub.

The planning application, expected to be decided in April, says: “The public house was constructed in the 1970s and following a downturn in profitability closed and was sold.

“The site has now stood derelict with the entrances and windows boarded over for a number of years. Our client is currently developing plans for the re-generation of the site in order to bring new jobs into the area.”

Last month Bradford Council approved plans by Bridge-It Enterprises to convert another former pub, the Napoleon, further up Wakefield Road, into offices.
