Four people arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of 19-year-old woman

CRIME SCENE: A police car and PCSO outside the flat in Birstall, where a woman was killed. FOUR PEOPLE are being questioned after being arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 19-year-old woman, it emerged yesterday.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that officers were called to Raikes Lane, in Birstall, West Yorkshire, at around 12.05am yesterday.

The force said it was called and had received reports that the teenager had been assaulted.

She was found to be unresponsi­ve when officers arrived at the scene. But the teenager was pronounced dead a short time later, a spokesman for West Yorkshire Police confirmed in a statement yesterday.

The force spokesman said that two men, aged 20 and 19, and two women, aged 23 and 17, had been arrested by officers on suspicion of murder.

The four remained in police custody yesterday, the spokesman added.

Detective Superinten­dent Jim Griffiths said: “Police are continuing inquiries into this incident [on Friday] morning and have launched a murder investigat­ion.

“We continue to question four persons who remain in police custody in connection with the death.”

Det Supt Griffiths also urged any witnesses to the incident come forward and contact the police.

He asked “anyone who may have informatio­n about what occurred, who we have not spoken with”, to contact West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
