Inquest to consider TV show on Turkish clinic

-

A MOTHER-OF-THREE from Leeds died after undergoing a so-called “Brazilian butt lift” in Turkey at a clinic that was featured on TV programme, a preinquest review hearing was told.

Leah Cambridge,

29, arranged for the cosmetic surgery to be carried out in Turkey via a company called Elite Aftercare and paid more than £5,000 for the procedure, Wakefield Coroner’s Court was told.

A pre-inquest review was told Elite Aftercare acted “almost like a travel agent” and put clients in touch with a surgeon in Turkey and provided a villa where patients could stay.

An inquest opening previously heard beautician Ms Cambridge, inset, died from a fat clot caused by the procedure on August 27, 2018 at a hospital in Izmir. Richard Paige, counsel for Ms Cambridge’s family, said the surgeon and clinic in Miss Cambridge’s surgery were featured on a Sky programme last year called Sex, Knives and Liposuction. Coroner Kevin McLoughlin said he wanted to see a recording of the programme at the full inquest. Mr Paige said a report by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons said the Brazilian buttock lift is a procedure in which fat is taken from another part of the body and injected into the buttocks. But he said surgeons warned it had the highest death rate of all cosmetic surgery.

A date for the full inquest is yet to be set.
