District’s vision for the next 10 years
A COUNCIL leader has heralded a defining moment in shaping North Yorkshire’s fastest-growing district over the next decade as a blueprint for development is being drawn up to bolster the economy and ensure property prices remain affordable.
Selby District Council has launched a major consultation on the 10-year plan, which will shape the evolution of the district until 2030.
The strategy is aimed at providing an adequate supply of affordable homes as well as boosting the economy, in particular through the green technology revolution.
The proposals are due to explore the economic potential of a cluster of low carbon-energy businesses along the M62.
Council leader Mark Crane said: “It’s important we reflect the needs and aspirations of the district.
“We’re the fastest-growing area in North Yorkshire and rightly proud of our quality of life and employment opportunities.
“This plan sets out the ways in which the council can support these things into the future. The plan is built on the success of the council over recent years.
“No doubt it’ll evolve over the full 10 years but it’s important to have a broad framework in place to ensure we put our resources into delivering the things that are most important for now and for the future.”
The strategy is also aiming to develop town-centre improvements for Selby, Tadcaster and Sherburn, as well as promoting investment, creating more wellpaid jobs and raising skills levels.
The vision is aiming to capitalise on technology by making more services available online and promote healthy living for residents in the Selby district.
While the plan is a 10-year vision, the council has identified priorities for the first three years.
The consultation can be accessed online at www.selby.gov. uk/your-council-plan and runs until November 25.
