Charles to make first official visit to Israel and Palestine territories
PRINCE CHARLES will visit Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories next month to carry out official engagements for the first time, Clarence House has announced.
Charles – who yesterday attended an Advent service at the Emmanuel Christian Fellowship Church in London to remember those affected by the bombings of three churches in Sri Lanka last Easter – will join delegates at the World Holocaust Forum.
The Duchess of Cornwall will also attend a Holocaust event when she joins commemorations marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration camp, AuschwitzBirkenau. Camilla will attend a service there on January 27 – International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Clarence House said ”At the invitation of Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, the Prince will also visit the Occupied Palestinian Territories where His Royal Highness will also undertake engagements on behalf of the British Government.”
His trip will follow one made by his son, the Duke of Cambridge, last year.
Meanwhile, the Duke of York was at Buckingham Palace yesterday for the traditional preChristmas lunch for the Royal family, hosted by the Queen.
Andrew has had a tumultuous year after his disastrous attempt to explain his relationship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein backfired. He was heavily criticised for showing a lack of empathy towards Epstein’s victims.
Andrew drove himself to the palace, where guests also included the Duchess of Cambridge, who was seen at the wheel of her car, with Princess Charlotte in the back seat.
The Prince will also visit the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Statement from Clarence House.
