William and Kate host a glittering reception ...as Camilla enters world of virtual reality
THE DUKE and Duchess of Cambridge hosted a glittering Buckingham Palace reception last night for world leaders from Africa.
William and Kate were joined by other royals at the event, which followed a day of meetings for the prime ministers and presidents attending the UK-Africa Investment Summit in London.
Earlier, the Duke of Sussex carried out what is likely to be one of his few remaining official engagements when he met some of the leaders for audiences in one-toone meetings.
Also at the event were the Earl and Countess of Wessex and the Princess Royal, who mingled with the heads of state and government and their partners, Boris Johnson and UK and African business figures.
The summit aims to demonstrate the strength of the relationship between the UK and Africa, showcase and promote the breadth and quality of investment opportunities across Africa and highlight the UK’s commitment to supporting economic development in Africa.
Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cornwall yesterday described the experience of wearing a virtualreality headset as “quite extraordinary”.
Camilla was shown the technology during a visit to Prospect
Hospice near Swindon, Wiltshire. She viewed a scene through the Forest of Serenity app, which is narrated by Sir David Attenborough.
It showed a peaceful walk through trees, with birds chirping overheard and wildlife roaming below.

“I can see you could get addicted to this. It relaxes you, doesn’t it?”
Camilla has been president of Prospect Hospice, which is celebrating its 40th year, since August 2013.
The charity supports around 7,300 patients, carers and family members annually.
During her visit to the centre, Camilla met a bereavement group.
She said: “Everybody has experienced the same grief probably so you know exactly how everyone else feels. I think it is such a good idea to have group therapy to let it all out.”
