Veteran looks that hide a modern car due to go on show at Post event

PETER VARNEY’S sports car looks for all the world like it is from the 1930s, but it is much newer than that.

“It’s from the 1970s,” he said. “It always gets people talking at shows. Many can’t believe how new it is.

“It’s a Panther Lima and it’s a retro car designed to look like an old Morgan or something of that age.”

Mr Varney, of Pool-inWharfedale

near Otley, loves taking the car to shows and will bring it to The Yorkshire Post

Motor Show and Classic Car Rally in June.

“Not a lot of people know about Panthers so it always creates a lot of interest.”

He has recently had a new Ford Zetec engine fitted in a bid to “future proof ” it so he can pass it on to his family. “I don’t think we will ever sell it. Now it has a

new engine it should be good for quite a few years yet. It is a car we can enjoy.”

The Yorkshire Post event will be at Harewood House near Leeds on Sunday June 21. Lisa Bradbury, JPIMedia regional events manager, Yorkshire, said: “This event originally started life here more than 20 years ago and was always really popular with families due to the variety of entertainment on offer, not to mention the beautiful selection of classic and vintage cars that make an appearance.

“The show also features motor dealers from the region, all this set in the stunning grounds of Harewood House.”
