Critical care nurse self-isolating after developing virus symptoms

-

A CRITICAL care nurse who posted a tearful video of herself outside a supermarket having been unable to buy food because others had stockpiled it, has developed coronavirus symptoms.

Dawn Bilbrough, from York, made her appeal last week after finding the fruit and vegetable shelves empty at the end of a long shift.

Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain yesterday, she said she had developed persistent nausea and headaches, and that doing jobs around the house was now making her breathless.

Asked if she was showing signs of Covid-19, she replied: “I believe I am.

“It began with chest discomfort. When I do anything – us women like to do things around the house – but that’s making me kind of breathless right now.”

She added that she had “ongoing nausea and persistent headaches”, adding: “I do believe I have Covid but I haven’t been tested.”

On Monday, Ms Bilbrough posted a video to say she had woken up with coronavirus symptoms and was staying off work and self-isolating.

She said: “My chest has been quite tight, which is unusual because I don’t have any problems with my chest usually.

“I’ve got a really bad headache, I just feel a bit nauseous, so I’ve contacted work to say I won’t be in and I will be self-isolating.”

Her original video last week prompted an appeal to shoppers from Stephen Powis, medical director of NHS England, to consider the needs of health workers.

Ms Bilbrough had filmed herself in her car immediately after leaving the supermarket, telling panic buyers: “You just need to stop it.”

She said later: “No woman wants her face beamed around the world when they are upset but I think it got the message out there.”

She added: “It seems to be that the younger generation don’t seem to understand how significant and dangerous this crisis actually is.”
