Teams ride in to raise cash for frontline NHS staff

THE COUNTRY’S leading riders and equestrian presenters are joining forces to raise money for the NHS.

Equestrian Relief will feature seven teams covering all discipline­s made up of a captain and four team members.

There will be Team Dressage, headed by Richard Davison; Team Eventing led by Zara Tindall; Team Showjumpin­g North captained by Huddersfie­ld-born Will Whitaker; Team Showjumpin­g South led by Jay Halim; Team Racing captained by Mike Bushall; Team Polo led by Mark Tomlinson and Team Presenters led by Alice Plunkett.

The teams started on Monday and the contest runs for a week. Teams will compete in five challenges with each team member taking on two challenges each. They will be: On the Gallops – running 5k in the fastest time possible; Plankety Plank – holding the plank position for the longest time; Bake Off Easter Cake Challenge – whipping up a celebrator­y Easter-themed bake; Horse Drawn – painting or drawing their best achievemen­t incorporat­ing their horse; and Dark Horse – revealing a hidden talent.

Organised by the teams behind Bolesworth and Liverpool Internatio­nal Horse Shows, daily highlights will be shown at 7pm on the Liverpool Internatio­nal Horse Show channels.

Frankie Dettori, a Racing Team member, said he was “super excited” to be taking part.

The goal for Equestrian Relief is to raise funds which will go directly to NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Crisis Fund. There is a donation link, online auction and a special T-shirt which is available to buy. All details are on the website equestrian­relief.com.

Nina Barbour, Bolesworth managing director, said: “Our priority is to unite the horse world to support our health workers and our goal is to raise a sum of money that will make a real difference supporting NHS staff and volunteers on the frontline.”
