New homes plan on single track country road branded ‘a travesty’

-

PLANS FOR new homes proposed to built on land being fed by a single track country lane have been branded “a travesty”.

Objections to the plans for nine homes on land off Abbey Lane, in Preston, in Holderness, claimed the lane proposed for an access road would not cope with a rise in traffic. A resident living in the neighbouring Abbey House claimed developers Hurd Homes were using the outbreak to “sneak” plans through.

Preston Parish Council said attempts to get the plans passed during the coronavirus outbreak were offensive. Developers said in documents submitted to East Riding Council that the site and Abbey Lane would accommodate nine new homes.

Carole Tesseyman, who lives in Abbey House, said she feared existing problems on the lane would get worse if the homes were built.

Ms Tesseyman said: “It’s a nightmare trying to get out on the lane as it is.

“We’ve had several near misses, the road can’t accommodate construction traffic or 40 to 60 cars coming down it every day.”

Another resident who objected to the plans said attempting to pass them when councillors could not undertake site visits was an “absolute travesty”.

Preston Parish Council said in a statement: “The timing of submission of this application deeply offends us and the residents of Preston.”

Documents from the developer said the impact of the new homes on the surrounding area would be minimal, adding: “The dwellings are single storey and views of Abbey House will be possible over rooftops and between plots one and two.”
