Morrisons expands same-day Amazon delivery service

-

BIG FOUR supermarket Morrisons and online retail giant Amazon have announced that they are expanding their same-day, online grocery delivery service to Prime members – covering most of London and more cities across the UK.

The service operated from 17 Morrisons stores in eight cities across the UK including Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow in March this year.

However, by the end of this month it will have been extended nationwide to over 40 stores, covering the largest cities.

Most of these locations are live and can be accessed by shopping the Morrisons store on Prime Now.

Bradford-based Morrisons says the expanded service will help the grocer play its part in feeding the nation during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

David Potts, chief executive of Morrisons, said: “Expanding this fast home delivery service to more cities will help us to play our full part in feeding the nation.

“Through our conveniently located stores and the popular Amazon Prime Now service, more and more customers will be able to access deliveries to their doorstep at this very difficult time.”

Prime Now customers in over 90 per cent of Greater London postcodes as well as customers in the other ten largest cities by population including Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Bristol will now be able to order their Morrisons orders on Prime Now and have their goods delivered by Amazon on the same day.

Customers can choose from convenient delivery options including delivery at no additional cost within a two-hour window between 8am and midnight.

Doug Gurr, Amazon UK country manager, said: “We are pleased to be able to support more customers through the expansion of Morrisons on Prime Now.

“The convenient service enables us to offer Morrisons high quality grocery selection to even more Prime members.”

This is one of many measures that are being introduced by Morrisons in response to the Coronavirus pandemic to deliver essential groceries to customers.

Earlier this month Morrisons announced a new dedicated telesales shopping service for vulnerable and elderly people.

Customers can place orders with Morrisons over the phone and a delivery will be made the following day by the community champion from their local store.

The firm also announced a bigger bonus for staff last month.
