Repairs to major city roads to go ahead in summer

-

A MAJOR programme of work to repair and improve roads across Hull is set to begin this summer.

The city council has planned improvements to five major roads in the city, with work due to start in the coming months.

A further 30 roads are set to be resurfaced, or surface dressed, from July to tackle potholes.

Other projects have been halted until further notice and works on the Stoneferry Corridor project have been postponed until the end of May.

The council’s deputy leader, Daren Hale, said the authority was undertaking the works when traffic was reduced.

He said: “We are currently delaying works that are likely to impact on parking capacity in residential areas for more than a few days, as we understand many residents are at home and large numbers of vehicles are parked in areas where our contractors need access to in order to complete any road improvements.

“However we trust residents in streets who are affected by the planned schemes will benefit from the improvements to their area and will assist us with shortterm relocation of their vehicles to enable us to complete the works as swiftly as possible.

“I’d like to stress that emergency repair works are still taking place, and that workers across all our schemes will be observing social distancing.”

Roadworks take place every summer in Hull, with teams sent out to repair surfaces.

The £8m Stoneferry Corridor was set to be completed this summer. It was designed to ease traffic and cut the number of crashes on roads from Bransholme and Kingswood towards Stoneferry and Southcoates, where morning rush hour speeds average only about five miles per hour.
