AMRC training centre lauded by the Government for achievemen­t

THE TRAINING centre at the Advanced Manufactur­ing and Research Centre (AMRC) has come top of the regional league table for engineerin­g apprentice achievemen­t.

The latest official figures released by the Government’s Education and Skills Funding Agency, show the University of Sheffield facility to be the best in Yorkshire for outcome for its apprentice­s.

Part of the world-leading AMRC and the Russell Group University of Sheffield, the training centre opened its doors six years ago and has been instrument­al in attracting global brands such as McLaren, RollsRoyce and Boeing to establish production facilities in the region.

Head of business developmen­t at the AMRC Training Centre, Anne Griggs, said the latest figures are “testimony to the continuous improvemen­t culture at the centre and the pivotal role its industry board plays in shaping a fit-for-purpose curriculum”.

“Engineerin­g and manufactur­ing skills are vital to the success of the Sheffield City Region economy and these figures show that the AMRC Training Centre is top of the league when it comes to delivering these skills.”

She added: “Although we had record numbers of employers wanting to sign up in March, the pandemic has led many to put things on hold. Neverthele­ss, many engineerin­g

“Like them, the AMRC Training Centre is open for business, providing the region’s manufactur­ers with access to world-leading facilities and the best apprentice achievemen­t rates in the region.”

Managing director of Sheffield-based Atlantic Pumps, Andy Smith, said: “Business is down but there is still a huge amount to do, supporting our clients in protecting their assets and helping them to fulfil obligation­s.”
